Activated charcoal, spirulina powder
Activated Charcoal and Spirulina Detox Facial Mask and Scrub
Activated charcoal or carbon combined with spirulina powder have amazing results. These can be found in pill forms but can be found in cosmetics as well.
Activated charcoal is a fine black powder made from coal, wood or other substances exposed to very high temperatures. This carbon becomes ‘activated’ when it undergoes a specific treatment to make it more adsorbent.
The porous texture of activated charcoal prevents toxins from entering your skin. It’s also an effective treatment for acne prone skin and insect bites.
Spirulina is a type of algae that grows in warm lakes. It may be the oldest plants on Earth yet it has powerful health benefits. Because of its essential amino acids, vitamins and minerals, spirulina contribute to healthy skin health.
It’s comprised of a total of 70% protein and almost all known anti-oxidants. Due to its high protein source and anti-oxidants, spirulina slows down the aging of the skin cells.
Deeply cleanses oily, acne-prone skin; helps remove blackheads, bacteria and dirt from pores; and soothes irritation while moisturizing skin.
- In a small glass bowl, mix the ingredients together until completely blended.
- Using your fingertips, apply the mask all over your face and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse off the mask with warm water and a washcloth.
- Add vinegar to a cotton pad and smooth over your clean skin. This post-mask toner helps the skin soak up your favorite moisturizer, acne cream or other skin treatment.
Note: If redness occurs, reduce the time you let the mask sit to just 5 minutes. If well-tolerated, you can build up to 10 minutes.
